41 degrees and still loving it...

Kia ora folks, just thought I would do a very quick Budapest update because we have a busy day planned tomorrow and didn't want to forget anything that we did today. Firstly though I think it is very important to mention that today it got to 41 degrees, you read right, 41!!!
I wasn't joking
When we got off the train it was like we had walked into an oven. Things didn't get off to the best start as we got on the wrong bus which took us in the other direction from where we were going but after about an hour of negotiating our way around public transport we got to our cute hostel, the loft of a residential building. People who do not do well with heights would struggle here because you feel very close to the edge when you are outside.
We are right up the top!
Living on the edge
The girl at the hostel was very helpful and told us about some good spots in our local area so we went exploring for a bit. On our journey we came to a huge indoor market where we both got a bite to eat. I tried làngos, Hungarian fried bread, and Annalisa had a sausage in pastry concoction.
Annalisa didn't feel too well after this...

Làngos!

After lunch we crossed over the green bridge and had our first sighting of the Danube. I then suggested we should climb up the top of the Citadella to get some views of the city. We both had some crazy sweat going on because by this point it was a good 40 degrees. We sought refuge in the Cave Church at the beginning of the climb and this was an interesting history lesson. When we got to the top we were pretty exhausted, our top lips were sweating but the view was worth every hard step. You could see the hills of Buda and the flatness of Pest along with many of the main buildings, was quite spectacular.

Yay! We made it!
What is the best thing to do after climbing a small mountain in extreme heat? Why, get some gelato of course! The lady at our hostel recommended a spot that makes gelato but has quite experimental flavours. I had lavender lemon and cinnamon plum and hands down it's the best gelato I have ever had! I think we will be heading back there everyday we have in Budapest!
The shop is called Lavender

Back at the hostel we had a chilled night and looked at the comprehensive list of to dos from Niki, Simon's cousins wife who is from Hungary, and have planned an awesome next few days thanks to her advice!

Time to catch some zzzz before our day exploring tomorrow!

X
